and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Will my insurance pay/cover all the services provided?
If you have questions about coverage for general eye care we recommend that you call your insurance carrier in advance of your visit. If your deductibles are met & your co-pays paid & you should have most if not all your services will be covered.
All patients should know, prior to coming in for a medical visit, if our doctors are a part of their insurance plan. if we are not a contracted provider you may have more our of pocket expense to pay.
Do you accept my insurance?
Eye Surgical accepts most insurance plans. We recommend that you call or go online with your insurance company to verify that our group is listed as a provider.
We are contracted with the following major insurance companies:
Anthem Blue Cross
United Health Care/PacifiCare
Aetna (PPO)
Cigna
Blue Shield
Interplan
Foundation for Medical Care (Kings & Tulare Counties
Medicare

Please note that some employer groups have access to major insurance company’s provider panels but your card will not reflect that association. It is always best to call or go online to verify the providers for medical & optometry services.
Can I get contact lenses with my glasses prescription?
No, a separate prescription is given for contact lenses.
If I have never worn contacts before, will the doctor dispense the contacts to me at my first appointment?
No. Each patient needs an appointment to go through a fitting process before leaving the office with any lenses. The patients instructed on how to insert, remove, clean & care for the contact lenses. After successful training and the doctor’s evaluation the patient may leave the office with trial lenses. Follow-up visits are scheduled to check the fit of the lens.
Can I take my prescription somewhere else to purchase my contacts?
Once the contact lens fitting process is complete, the contact lens can be purchased through our office or from any other lens dispensary.
Do I have to pay the fitting fee every year?
Yes. An eye medical check is required by Eye Surgical & Medical Associates doctors annually. This ensures a correct contact lens fit.
Can I drive after dilation?
Many patients do drive themselves after having their eyes dilated, some patients are sensitive to light and your vision may be blurry. You should wear sunglasses after your exam. Your safety is important, so if you do not feel comfortable driving, you should arrange for someone to drive you home.
How long will my appointment take?
The average initial appointment takes approximately two hours. Appointments not requiring dilation or refraction are considerably shorter in duration.
How long will my eyes be dilated?
In most cases the pupils will stay dilated approximately 4 to 6 hours. This time will vary according to the type of drops the doctor uses and the color of your eyes. Children are often dilated with stronger drops in order to improve the accuracy of the examination. Dark-colored eyes tend to have shorted dilation time than light colored eye patients.
If I have a problem after hours are you available to help me?
We have a doctor on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you call after hours, our answering service will contact the on-call doctor.
Why is eye pressure tested?
This test is needed to screen patients for glaucoma; a dilated exam is an essential pat of the evaluation process.
How long will it take to get my glasses?
In most circumstances 1-3 days, but some orders can take longer (5-7 days). Special orders may take 1-2 weeks.
Can I bring in an outside prescription (written by another doctor)?
Yes.
